Preparing for Your ClassHandguns and EquipmentStudents may supply their own handguns or rent student guns (revolvers & semi-autos) and holsters at $15.00 per day. Minimum caliber is 9mm/38 special or larger and single action revolvers are not suitable. Holsters must be durable and suited for the intended use (no exposed trigger guards for auto pistols), durable belt and spare ammunition carriers, i.e. magazines or speed loaders. Even if you use our leather gear, be sure to bring some type of belt. At least three magazines (if single column type) for all courses, clear safety glasses for overcast days and ear and eye protection at all times while on the range. Multiple speed loaders and hand held flashlight are required for advanced courses. AmmunitionIt should be a standard load -- not a light target load. Of course, you may retrieve your brass from the range. You must supply your own ammunition -- no ammunition is available for sale at the class location. TransportationLos Angeles International Airport is approximately 30 miles from the local hotel facilities in Valencia (near Magic Mountain) and the range is approximately 20 minutes from these facilities. Car rental is the best way to assure your mobility while in Southern California. ApparelGenerally warm weather clothing is suitable for our climate, but during the winter months one should be prepared for possible rain or cold conditions. Avoid very loose fitting garments that could hamper your mobility or that could entangle your equipment. It is very important to have a hat for protection from the warm California sun. Also, a belt and holster is a must for carrying your firearm while on the range. Ladies, please do not wear shoes with high heels. LunchThere will be a break period each day with sufficient time for a comfortable lunch. There are no luncheon facilities close enough to the range to leave for lunch, so it is important to plan ahead. Be sure to bring plenty of liquid refreshments. LectureYou will need writing utensils and a notebook in order to record necessary information from the lectures. No tape recorders allowed. |
